SAS

Availability: Beehive and all CHPC clusters (v 9.4)

AS/STAT is a highly used software suite for statistical analysis for a variety of systems. We have three different ways to run it on CHPC systems:

Open On Demand

We recommend users use the Open On Demand version of SAS at https://ondemand.chpc.utah.edu/pun/sys/dashboard/batch_connect/sys/sas_app/session_contexts/new. It defaults to a slightly different look and feel to the Windows version of SAS but these steps will make them nearly identical. They only need to be run once.

Select the Program Editor window, then select Tools -> Options -> Program Editor

Select the Editing tab from this panel to see the following:Screenshot of SAS Program Editor window Select and deselect the options you wish to change. For instance, "Clear text on submit" is an option many users do not want but it is enabled by default. Click OK to finalize your changes.

To save these settings, there is another option to change. From any SAS window, select Tools -> Options -> Preferences. Select the DMS tab and you should see the following panel: Screenshot of SAS preferences with DMS tab selected Select the Save Settings on Exit button to ensure your previous changes are saved. Then select the Editing tab. Deselect the Automatically store selection box. Then click OK to finalize these changes. Then select Tools -> Options -> Keys to make changes to the copy/paste behavior of SAS to make it similar to Windows. In the following panel, scroll down to change CTRL-C and CTRL-V to the copy and paste actions. You will need to type the words copy and paste to look like the following: Screenshot of SAS settings, showing key mappings; \ Click File -> Save to save these options. Please note this makes copy and paste work inside the remote desktop but you will still need to use the VNC clipboard as shown below to exchange clipboard information between your machine and the remote SAS desktop. SAS may be run directly on the cluster nodes by loading the 'sas' module. Refer to the SAS manual for more on this.

Windows Virtual Machines

For Beehive (general environment) or Narwhal (protected environment), press the windows key and search for SAS 9.4, or navigate the All Programs tab and find the SAS folder. Help on using SAS can be found here: http://support.sas.com/.

Please note that you may experience sluggish performance with this option as a single VM's resources are shared between all users and not specifically assigned like on the clusters.
